
Maharashtra govt approves proposal to display signboard in Marathi on all shops

The Maharashtra government had made a rule in 2017 that all shops in the state should have a signboard written in Marathi but the implementation did not go as planned. Now, the proposal will be binding on all shops and establishments across the state.
The Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government on Wednesday approved a proposal wherein shops prominently display a signboard in Marathi. The state cabinet passed the proposal that will be binding on all shops and establishments across the state.
In 2017, the Maharashtra government had made a rule that all shops in the state should have a signboard written in Marathi. However, its implementation did not go as planned. In many places, small name plates were put on shops in Marathi and in many places, shopkeepers circumvent this rule.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
