Maharashtra BJP gets new chief, Ashish Shelar to head party’s Mumbai unit

BJP national president JP Nadda issued a directive appointing Chandrashekhar Bawankule as Maharashtra BJP head and Ashish Shelar as Mumbai head.
The Bharatiya Janata Party's National President, JP Nadda, has appointed Chandrashekhar Bawankule as the President of the party's Maharashtra unit. For the Mumbai administration, the party has named Ashish Shelar as the top functionary. The two are set to assume office immediately.
Chandrashekhar Bawankule is an MLC from Nagpur and he was elected to the Legislative Council in December 2021. Hailing from the OBC community, he is expected to further garner support for the party in the community.
"I am confident that the BJP will fight with new energy in the elections of local self-government bodies and municipal corporations under its leadership and will achieve a resounding victory," Chandrakant Patil shared on Twitter.

The BJP said that the party president had brought about changes to the party's leadership in the state. The changes have been brought about since Chandrakant Patil and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, who presided over the party across the state and Mumbai city, respectively, were inducted into the state Cabinet.
Taking to Twitter, BJP shared, "The National President of BJP JP Nadda has appointed Shri Chandrashekhar Bawankule, Member Legislative Council, State President of Bharatiya Janata Party Maharashtra and Shri Ashish Shelar, MLA as President of Mumbai Mahanagar Bharatiya Janata Party."
