Macaulay Culkin posted a heartbreaking message after the death of Catherine O’Hara, who played his mom in the first two “Home Alone” films.
O’Hara’s death at the age of 71 was announced on Friday, but her manager could not confirm the cause or the exact time of her passing.
Her death inspired lots of social media tributes, but Culkin’s may have been the most heartwrenching, considering their long friendship after they worked together in the early 1990s.
The 45-year-old Culkin told The New York Times in 2024 that he continued to call O’Hara “Mom” years after making the films, and he said that whenever she saw him, she would open her arms and say, “Son.”
Culkin’s Instagram tribute showed photos of him with O’Hara when they made “Home Alone” and still connecting years later.
The follow-up to the 1987 classic boasts an impressive creative team and one of its original stars, but there are still big dancing shoes to fill.
