Maaya leads a dynamic Indian team at the WTA 125 Mumbai Open, aiming for success against top international players.
A year ago, a teenage sensation from India announced herself on the big stage, making the tennis world take notice with a stunning run to the semifinals of the 2025 WTA 125 Mumbai Open. Then 15-year-old Maaya Rajeshwaran bowed out to Switzerland’s Jil Teichmann, who went on to lift the title.
Now, as the fifth edition of the WTA 125K Series L&T Mumbai Open gets underway at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) on Monday, Maaya is back — bolder, stronger, and determined to go further.
Speaking to the media ahead of the main draw, the young Indian expressed her excitement at returning to Mumbai and gaining experience at the highest level.
“I just want to play as many big tournaments as possible this year. It’s all about getting more match time and building the strength to play for longer durations on the road,” Maaya said.
“It is a privilege and an honour to play against such high-level athletes. For me right now, it’s about playing more, gaining experience, and showing up on court to the best of my ability,” she added.
The tournament also boasts a strong international field, with eight players in the main draw ranked inside the WTA top 150.
