In a major reshuffle in the Pakistan Army, Lt. General Azhar Abbas, who was responsible for the security of the Line of Control (LoC) with India, has been named the next Chief of General Staff, considered the most important position after the Army chief. General Abbas, who is from the Baloch Regiment, replaces Lt. General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, who was posted out as commander of Rawalpindi-based 10 Corps — a post previously held by him, the Pakistan Army’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Tuesday.
