Illegal liquor racket busted in Saroornagar, stock worth ₹1.2 lakh seized
An illegal liquor racket operating from a private residence in Mansoorabad, Saroornagar, was unearthed by the officials from the Telangana Excise and Prohibition Department. A total of 45 bottles of non-duty paid liquor, valued at approximately ₹1.2 lakh, were seized following a raid on the premises.
The accused, Akshay Kumar, 30, was sourcing liquor from States where it is priced lower - Goa, Delhi, Haryana, and Punjab, and illegally stocking it in Hyderabad. Officials said that he converted a section of his house into a mini-liquor store, where he sold alcohol with promotional offers to attract buyers.
Among the bottles seized, 23 were from Goa, eight from Delhi and Haryana, one from Punjab, and nine duty-free bottles.
Investigation revealed that the accused used his frequent inter-State travel under the pretext of photography assignments as a cover to smuggle liquor.
A case was booked and further investigations are under way.
