Thrissur DCC president condemns renaming of Nehru Yuva Kendra, warns against erasing legacy of Nehru, Gandhi through name changes.
Condemning the recent renaming of the Nehru Yuva Kendra to Mera Yuva Bharat by the Union government, Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) president Joseph Tajet said the current rulers of the country are afraid of even names. Speaking at a protest organised by the DCC in association with Ayyanthole block committees, Mr. Tajet said the name change reflected an attempt to erase the legacy of leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, and Rajiv Gandhi. “Those who ask ‘What’s in a name?’ are quick to remove Nehru’s name but rush to insert names like Vajpayee and Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Why the double standard?” he asked.
He said India was at a point where citizens must remain vigilant to protect historical truths from being distorted by communal forces. The protest, held at Thekke Gopura Nada, was a symbolic resistance against “a systematic rewriting of history.” Many Congress leaders participated in the protest.
