Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok criticizes State government's lack of preparedness for rain havoc in Sakaleshpur.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok visited the rain-hit areas of Sakaleshpur in Hassan district and said that the State government was not prepared to handle the rain havoc during the monsoon.
Mr. Ashok visited Anemahal, Doddatappalu, and other areas in Sakaleshpur, where landslides occurred, obstructing the vehicular movement on the busy Shiradi Ghat stretch of National Highway 75. He interacted with local people.
Speaking to the press persons on the occasion, Mr. Ashok said the early monsoon has created havoc in many places. The State government had not made any preparations to face the situation. The CM should have held a meeting to review the preparedness well in advance, he said.
Earlier, during the BJP rule, Mr. Ashok said, the government gave up to ₹5 lakh as compensation in case of house damage due to heavy rains. “However, now the government is not paying compensation to the affected people. The government is busy organising conventions. The CM has no time to attend Niti Aayog’s meeting but keeps making allegations against the Centre,” he remarked.
The BJP leader also commented that the government had not released guidelines on the compensation for rain-hit people. During the BJP rule, the government provided the affected families with a ration sufficient for a month. “The government should take necessary measures for the relief of rain-affected people. I will write to the CM on this issue,” he added.
Mr. Ashok was accompanied by Sakaleshpur MLA Cement Manju, former minister H.K. Kumaraswamy, and officers of Hassan district administration.
