LDF govt. in Kerala will get a third term in power, says convener T.P. Ramakrishnan

LDF convener confident in Pinarayi Vijayan's government, predicts third term in 2026 despite opposition efforts.

Left Democratic Front (LDF) convener T.P. Ramakrishnan has exuded confidence about the current government in Kerala led by Pinarayi Vijayan getting a third term in the 2026 Assembly polls.

He was responding to questions from the media related to a remark by outgoing Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K. Sudhakaran that he would go to any extent to bring down Mr. Vijayan from power, here on Sunday.

Mr. Ramakrishnan said that Mr. Vijayan had become the Chief Minister with the support of 91 MLAs in 2016. Mr. Sudhakaran was in the forefront of the campaigning for the 2021 elections to unseat Mr. Vijayan. However, the government got re-elected with the support of 99 MLAs. “The LDF will get a third term in 2026 despite all their efforts,” Mr. Ramakrishnan said.

Asked about the recent leadership change in the KPCC, the LDF convener said that it would not make any political impact. The Congress leadership was isolated from the people, who were not approving of its actions. “The United Democratic Front (UDF) is trying for a return to power with the support of communal organisations. It has the backing of the BJP as well... The Indian Union Muslim League is attempting to include the Jamaat-e-Islami as an ally in the UDF,” he alleged. Mr. Ramakrishnan claimed these steps would not hold any water as the people were quite convinced about the changes in their lives brought out by the LDF government.

Meanwhile, the LDF is planning to resume its district-level rallies which were postponed in the wake of the Indo-Pak conflict in the border areas. Mr. Vijayan would address the Kozhikode-level rally on May 13, Mr. Ramakrishnan said. The rallies in other districts would be completed by May 22, he added, while expressing the confidence that the ceasefire steps would prevail.
