Devotees flock to Srirangam's Cauvery for Thai Amavasai rituals, facing heavy crowds and long waits for priests.
A large number of devotees took holy dip in the Cauvery in Srirangam on the occasion of Thai Amavasai.
People performed tharpanam, a ritual offering of black sesame seeds and water to their forefathers.
The heavy rush left many struggling to find space to perform the rituals. Many had to wait for 30 minutes to an hour to find space and priests to perform obsequies at Amma Mandapam bathing ghat, one of the most sought after pilgrims spots in Srirangam.
Priests from Srirangam and Thiruvanaikoil and other places offered their services. Vendors of flower and puja items put up stalls from Mambalasalai to Amma Mandapam to make the most of the demand.
A priest belonging to Srirangam said the number of devotees, who came to Amma Mandapam in Thai and Adi amavasai was increasing year after year.
