Lakers star Luka Doncic was fined $50,000 for directing an “inappropriate and unprofessional gesture toward a game official” during Sunday’s win over the Knicks, the NBA announced on Tuesday.
With 4:35 remaining in the third quarter of the Lakers’ victory, Doncic attempted to draw a charge against Mohamed Diawara, but no call was made with Josh Hart making a layup.
While on the floor, Doncic rubbed his fingers together in a money gesture while looking at official Tre Maddox.
Doncic has had troublesome dialogue with referees this season, contributing to the 15 technical fouls he’s been assessed in 2025-26, the second most in the league behind Dillon Brooks’ 16.
Doncic has had at least 15 technical fouls in four of the last six seasons, and at least 13 in the previous six.

Most of the words Chris Drury said in July about defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov centered around the defensive side of the $49 million defenseman’s game. The Rangers president and general manager wanted to be better in front of their goaltenders. He wanted improved coverage in high-danger areas. And Gavrikov, inked to a seven-year deal at the start of free agency that month to pair with Adam Fox, possessed “qualities of an elite shutdown guy.”
