Grading Egor Demin’s injury-shortened rookie season with Nets
NY Post
After waiting 15 years to have a lottery pick, the Nets saw Egor Dëmin’s rookie campaign cut short, shut down early by increased plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
While Dëmin will avoid needing surgery — and is expected to return to basketball activity early enough in the offseason to have a full summer — it begs a host of questions.
What kind of rookie season did he have? And what does it mean for the Nets and their young Russian going forward?
The answers are a mix of the good, the bad and the ugly.

Most of the words Chris Drury said in July about defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov centered around the defensive side of the $49 million defenseman’s game. The Rangers president and general manager wanted to be better in front of their goaltenders. He wanted improved coverage in high-danger areas. And Gavrikov, inked to a seven-year deal at the start of free agency that month to pair with Adam Fox, possessed “qualities of an elite shutdown guy.”
