After reaching the spot, the SDRF officials came to know that those trapped on the island were daily labourers who lived near Maneri Dam.
The Maneri Dam is situated on the Bhagirathi River in Maneri, 8.5 kilometres east of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand. It was found that due to the rise in the water level of the river, the alternate route to their homes was washed away, following which, these labourers were left stuck on the other side of the island.
The SDRF team carried out the rescue operation late at night and rescued all those stranded on the island. They used a rope to form a river crossing bridge, using which the labourers were brought to a safe place.
