A new cocktail book mixes drink recipes with Mennonite trivia and culture.
The book is called Menno-Nightcaps: Cocktails Inspired by the Odd Ethno-Religious Group You Keep Mistaking for the Amish, Quakers or Mormons.
Author Sherri Klassen recently joined CBC Kitchener-Waterloo's The Morning Edition to tell host Craig Norris about the inspiration behind the book.
Raised Mennonite herself, Klassen has a blog and tweets under the name The Drunken Menno.
In the introduction, Klassen describes the book as having "amusing commentary on Mennonite history, faith practices and cultural forms, each with thematically appropriate cocktails."
The following interview has been edited for clarity.
Craig Norris: I get that this book is satirical, but [in the introduction to the interview] I spoke about the perception that Mennonites never touch alcohol. Is that untrue?
