On Thursday, security forces gunned down an alleged terrorist identified as 23-year-old Amir Riyaz in a brief encounter in Srinagar. He formerly served in the police and was related to one of the main accused in the Pulwama terror attack of 2019.

The youngster had served as a special police officer (SPO) in the Jammu and Kashmir Police in 2018. However, he resigned eight months later after terror groups like Hizbul Mujahideen issued threats. At least three SPOs were killed in terror attacks in south Kashmir, leading to a spate of resignations in September 2018.
