Three bird flu cases have been confirmed in Kerala’s Kottayam district with samples from as many panchayats Vechur, Aymanam and Kallara testing positive. Culling of ducks and other birds will begin on Wednesday to contain the virus.
District Collector Dr P K Jayashree called an emergency meeting of officials to discuss control measures. The tests were conducted at the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal. Last week, the same flu was confirmed in neighbouring Alappuzha district. Ducks and other birds were culled to fend off the virus.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
