
Kerala Governor observes day-long fast against dowry; Congress, BJP criticise Left govt

Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Wednesday sat on a day-long fast to create awareness against the practice of dowry. Opposition BJP and Congress supported the protest but also criticised the Left government for not ensuring safety of women in the state.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan on Wednesday observed a day-long fast at Raj Bhavan to create awareness against the practice of dowry and end atrocities against women. Governor Khan began the fast from 8 am till late evening. The Governor observed the fast in response to a call by various Gandhian organisations to create awareness against the practice of dowry as part of marriages.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
