Kerala finance minister announced the 2022 budget on Friday with Rs 2000 crore allocated to the Silverline Project and major allocations for infrastructure development in the education sector.
Kerala Finance minister KN Balagopal presented the state’s first paperless annual budget on Friday. An amount of Rs 2,000 crore has been set aside in the budget 2022-23 for land acquisition for the Kerala government’s Silverline project.
The project is currently in its initial stages with land being demarcated across the state for acquisition.The budget allocation has now made it clear that the Kerala government plans to move forward with the project despite massive protests against it.
Several other infrastructure projects also made it to the state budget, including IT corridors that will come up parallel to NH-66. The four proposed IT corridors aim to boost the state’s IT sector and will be constructed at Technopark-Kollam, Ernakulam-Koratti, Ernakulam-Cherthala and Kozhikode-Kannur.
Two new IT parks in Kollam and Kannur have also been allocated as a part of the budget. Another Rs 100 crore has been allocated through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) to boost IT-related infrastructure.

Education gets much needed boost
The Kerala government’s budget also has major provisions for the education sector. Each university in the state will be allocated Rs 20 crore along with a plan to set up start-ups on campuses.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
