Kauvery Group launches GI Bleed Centres in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, enhancing emergency care for life-threatening gastrointestinal bleeding.

The Kauvery Group of Hospitals has launched dedicated Gastrointestinal (GI) Bleed Centres across its units in Tamil Nadu, with services extended to Karnataka, to strengthen emergency response to gastrointestinal bleeding — a potentially life-threatening condition if not treated promptly.

Gastrointestinal bleeding, which refers to internal bleeding anywhere along the digestive tract, can present as a medical emergency. Delays in diagnosis and intervention may significantly increase morbidity and mortality, particularly in patients with underlying liver disease, ulcers, or other high-risk conditions.

The centres at 12 units across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka offer 24/7 emergency endoscopy and advanced treatments such as injection therapy, banding, glue therapy, and coil embolisation.

Interventional radiology and surgical support are also available for complex cases.

P. Basumani, director, Kauvery Institute of Digestive Sciences, said GI bleeding could arise from ulcers, gastric erosions or variceal bleeds linked to liver disease.

“Effective management depends on early assessment, stabilisation, accurate diagnosis, and timely intervention. Delays can be life-threatening,” he said. Aravindan Selvaraj, co-founder and executive director of Kauvery Group of Hospitals, said access to timely specialised care was critical in emergency situations.
