Kannada Development Authority Chairman releases Poovappa Kaniyoor's refined book on the Bhootaradhane tradition in Mangaluru.
Chairman of Kannada Development Authority Purushothama Bilimale released “Ullakulu: Aaradhana Ananyate”, a book on “Ullakulu” Bhootaradhane tradition, in Mangaluru on Thursday (March 19, 2026).
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Bilimale said no other folk tradition in India has seen as much quality research as Bhootaradhane has. Ullakulu was a continuation of this scholarly tradition. Author Poovappa Kaniyoor has revised and refined his research done 22 years ago and published it after it has matured.
Folklore expert and former Vice Chancellor of Karnataka Folklore University Chinnappa Gowda saidthrough Ullakulu, the author has depicted the conflict and harmony between two worlds in Sullia. Mr. Kaniyoor’s research is based on oral traditions, which represented the history of the people. Dr. Kaniyoor also spoke.
The book was released at Karnataka Sahitya Tulu Academy’s Dr. Vaman Nandavara Tulu Chavadi.
