Chennai Traffic Police installing canopies at traffic junctions to provide relief from heat, but more needed at busy spots.
Taking their cue from the Puducherry Police, the Greater Chennai Traffic Police have installed canopies at several traffic junctions. It is a welcome step as it is too hot in the city during the summer. But the canopy has not been installed at all traffic junctions, especially those that handle heavy traffic.
Some of the junctions that require the canopies are Sterling Road, Thirumangalam Road, the Teynampet signal, and the Spencer junction.
The absence of the canopies at these junctions causes hardship to motorists waiting in the open. The traffic police could install permanent canopies at some junctions as they would be helpful during the rains.

A senior officer of the traffic police says the installation of canopies at some junctions was done on a pilot basis. They will be installed at other junctions based on the feedback from the people.
Residents of Chitlapakkam, Tambaram MEPZ, Sembakkam, and other localities use the Sanatorium station to commute on suburban trains. The slow progress of installation of elevators causes inconvenience to senior citizens and women.
