
Jumbo menace: Herd of elephants wreaks havoc in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

A herd of at least 40-50 elephants intruded into Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday and marauded houses and paddy crop in the area. The forest officials have now warded off the herd from the area.
Panic gripped Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday morning after a herd of elephants from Jharkhand’s Dalma forest intruded into the district. A herd comprising at least 40-50 elephants of various age groups marauded the villages in Betnoti, Baripada, Udala, Deuli and Rasgobindpur forest range, causing damage to houses and paddy crops in the area.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
