Joe Biden Says Weak Jobs Report 'Makes Clear' Need For More Stimulus

April’s disappointing jobs report added urgency to Democrats' calls for a massive infrastructure and jobs package.
President Joe Biden on Friday called on lawmakers to approve his massive infrastructure and jobs package following a hugely disappointing jobs report showing the economy picked up far fewer jobs than economists expected during the month of April. “We can’t let up. This jobs report makes that clear. We’ve got too much work to do,” Biden said in remarks at the White House. “We have to build back better.” Biden spoke shortly after the U.S. Labor Department announced employers added only 266,000 jobs last month and the unemployment rate rose to 6.1%, even as states began relaxing coronavirus restrictions and vaccinations against COVID-19 increased. Economic forecasters expected as many as 1 million more jobs in April.More Related News
