After exiting the Arumugasamy Commission, which is probing the death of former TN CM Jayalalithaa, OPS referred to Sasikala as ‘Chinnamma’ twice while speaking to the media, on Tuesday, March 22. He said that he personally has respect for Sasikala.
AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) appeared before the Arumugasamy Commission, which was constituted to probe the death of former Tamil Nadu CM and AIADMK supremo, J Jayalalithaa. While exiting the inquiry on Tuesday, OPS referred to Sasikala as 'Chinnamma' twice.
The Commission was constituted in September 2017 after OPS led a rebellion within the party alleging that there was suspicion over Jayalalitha’s death.
After a long meditation in front of ‘Amma’ memorial, OPS said that the spirit of Jayalalitha spoke with him and urged him to make sure that the party didn’t come under the grasp of a single family, thereby initiating rebellion against Sasikala, who until then, he referred to as ‘Chinnamma,’ and her nephew, TTV Dhinakaran.
Unable to garner the required support, OPS couldn’t topple the Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS, who was a proxy for Sasikala then) government.
The tide turned interestingly in OPS’s favour as TTV Dhinakaran was also jailed with Sasikala. However, he couldn’t succeed in removing EPS from the CM seat.

Finally, a truce was chartered, and EPS and OPS decided to join hands. After this, OPS became dormant as EPS was able to hold onto the party’s majority support, with the blessings of the BJP-led central government.
