IPL 2022: Jason Roy said he wanted to spend time with his young family and cited bubble fatigue for withdrawing from the 10-team season. The England opener was bought for Rs 2 crore by Gujarat Titans.

England opener Jason Roy on Tuesday said he pulled out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 to spend time with his young family. Roy, who was bought by Gujarat Titans in the IPL mega auction, confirmed bubble fatigue as the reason for his decision to withdraw from the 10-team league, starting March 26.

Jason Roy, who was brought in as a replacement player for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2021, had also withdrawn from the IPL in 2020. Notably, Roy and his wife Eli Moore became parents for the second time in January 2022, welcoming a baby boy to their young family.

Roy took to social media to explain his decision and said he hopes that everyone respects and understands the circumstances which he took the call.

Roy was bought by Gujarat Titans was bought at his base price of Rs 2 crore. He was set to form the core of the Titans' top-order but the star England batter's pull-out means the new franchise will have to look for alternate options. The Titans are yet to name a replacement for Roy.

"Hi everyone, especially the Gujarat Titans fans and squad. It's with a heavy heart I have decided to pull out of this year's tournament. I want to thank the management and captain Hardik for putting your faith in me and picking me in the auction. However, with everything going on in the world over the last 3 years it's added up and taken its toll on me," Roy said."I feel it's only right I spend some quality time with my family. As well as spending time working on myself and my game over the next couple of months leading into a very busy year," he added.

Meanwhile, Roy said he will back the Gujarat Titans to win the IPL trophy in their maiden year and that he will follow each and every match of the Hardik Pandya-led side in IPL 2022."I will be following each game of the Titans and backing them to lift the trophy in their first year of the tournament. Thank you everyone for the continued support and I hope you can all respect and appreciate my decision."

Gujarat Titans have been drawn in virtual Group B alongside CSK, SRH, RCB and PBKS. The IPL organizers decided to split the 10 teams into 2 groups of 5 each as 70 league matches are set to be played across four venues in Mumbai and Pune.
