Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha's advisor Farooq Khan has resigned. Sources say he may be assigned a "major role" in the BJP ahead of Assembly elections in the UT.
Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha's advisor Farooq Khan stepped down from his post on Sunday. Sources said he may be assigned a prominent role in the BJP.
A retired IPS officer, Farooq Khan spearheaded counter-terrorism ops in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s which helped curb terror-related incidents in the Valley.
Previously, Khan also served as a national secretary of the BJP and held various posts in the party's minority cell.
Khan’s rumoured elevation in the BJP ranks assumes significance as Assembly elections are slated to be conducted in the Union Territory later this year.
Although poll dates have not been announced yet, it is expected that the elections will be held after October following completion of the ongoing delimitation exercise by May.
