An air strike hit the Hezbollah stronghold of south Beirut on early Thursday (March 5, 2026), AFPTV images showed, shortly after Israel issued a warning ahead of an attack. Israel’s military earlier told residents to leave a Beirut suburb, warning it was about to strike targets it said were linked to Hezbollah.

Israel’s military said air defences were responding to missiles launched from Iran on Thursday (March 5, 2026), triggering alerts in several areas including Tel Aviv. The military said in a statement it had “identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat”.
Earlier, a U.S. submarine torpedoed and sank an Iranian warship off the coast of Sri Lanka on Wednesday (March 4, 2026), the Pentagon said, as the war launched by the United States and Israel spread to another region.

Iran postponed the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The ceremony was originally scheduled to take place at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Prayer Hall starting at 10 p.m. (1830 GMT) on Wednesday (March 4, 2026), but was “postponed”, state media said, without elaborating further, as per France 24.
