The company, however, has also advised users to temporarily switch to petrol where possible to manage the pressure on supply.
“Nearly 70% of auto-rickshaws are equipped with dual-fuel systems, allowing them to run on both auto-LPG and petrol, and such a shift has already been in places like Puttur where availability is limited,” IOC said.
Across Karnataka, oil marketing companies (OMCs) operate 72 Auto LPG Dispensing Stations (ALDS), of which Indian Oil accounts for 55. In comparison, more than 300 ALDS have been set up by private players, but nearly 80% of these are currently ‘non-operational’ due to prevailing geopolitical challenges.
In response, the company has stepped up supplies with support from the Union government. Its average daily supply in the State has increased from about 43.5 metric tonnes (MT) per day in February to 59.53 MT/day in March, and further to 68.53 MT/day from April 4.
Despite the increase, officials said infrastructure constraints, including the limited number of operational ALDS and dispensing capacity make it difficult to fully offset the supply gap created by the closure of private outlets.
Pricing differences have further shifted demand towards PSU-operated stations, IOC, in a statement, said, pointing out that auto LPG is currently priced at ₹89.52 per litre at Indian Oil outlets in Bengaluru, compared to ₹99-₹105 per litre at private stations, leading to higher footfall and longer waiting times.
