Assam is heading for elections to its Legislative Assembly. The battle for the 126 constituency seats is heating up, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA alliance aiming to secure a historic third consecutive victory in the northeastern State.
The Election Commission of India has announced the dates for the Assam polls on April 9, and the results will be announced on May 4.
Around 2.49 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes to choose the next government.

Here’s everything you need to know
The BJP-led NDA alliance won the last elections held in March-April 2021 and secured a historic second consecutive term in the state. NDA won 75 out of 126 seats in the polls. The BJP won 60 seats, Asom Gana Parishad(AGP) won 9 seats, and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) won six seats.

Following an acute shortage of auto LPG due to continued tensions in West Asia, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Limited said it has increased its supplies across Karnataka in response to a surge in demand. The company, however, has also advised users to temporarily switch to petrol where possible to manage the pressure on supply.
