PMK founder demands intensified Cyclone Fengal relief work in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts, criticizes Tamil Nadu government's negligence.
PMK founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday demanded that Cyclone Fengal relief work be intensified in Cuddalore and Villupuram districts, which have been severely affected. He also demanded the Tamil Nadu government to take stock of the damages and provide adequate compensation to the people.
In a statement, Dr. Ramadoss said Tindivanam had experienced 37.4 cm of rainfall along with Nemur (35.20 cm), Vallam (32 cm), Semmedu (31 cm), and Vanur (24 cm).
“Tindivanam has experienced the maximum rainfall in Tamil Nadu, and the Kidangal lake was breached, resulting in water flooding several neighbourhoods. Around 36,000 cusecs was released from the Veedur dam, inundating several areas. Even in Cuddalore district, several areas have been flooded,” he said.
The State government’s inaction and negligence were the main reasons for the severe damage. “In several areas of Villupuram, canals were not desilted and encroachments were not removed. This led to the damage. People living in low-lying areas weren’t given proper assistance by the State government. In a few areas, people did not even receive adequate food,” he added.

With the objective of ensuring safe travel for women, senior citizens and visiting tourists in Madurai, a new women e-auto programme was launched here on Thursday. Speaking at the launch function, Venkatesan Dhattatreyan, Regional Director, Union Ministry of Tourism, said a city like Madurai, with high heritage value, had ample scope for womenfolk to make their livelihood with decent earnings.
