
Indian embassy issues Jeju Island travel advisory after vlogger's detention ordeal

The Indian Embassy said the advisory is aimed at minimising the possibilities of inconvenience caused to Indian travellers or denial of entry or repatriation upon arrival at Jeju Island.
Days after Indian content creator Sachin Awasthi alleged that he was detained for 38 hours and denied entry upon landing in South Korea’s Jeju Island — an episode closely monitored transit through China — the Indian Embassy in Seoul has issued an advisory for Indian nationals travelling to Jeju under the island’s visa waiver scheme.
The mission said the advisory is aimed at minimising the "possibilities of inconvenience caused to Indian travellers or denial of entry or repatriation upon arrival" at Jeju.
In its advisory, the embassy stressed that entry under the Jeju visa-free facility is allowed strictly for short-term tourism and that "final admission into the Republic of Korea is determined solely by the immigration authorities" at Jeju International Airport in accordance with Korean law.
It underscored that the visa waiver scheme does not guarantee entry, even if travellers hold valid documents.

Travellers have also been advised to demonstrate adequate financial preparedness for daily expenses, accommodation and transport.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
