India’s role in climate change negligible: PM Modi blames West for CO2 emissions

Holding developed nations responsible for large-scale carbon emissions, PM Modi said India's role in climate change is negligible.
On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is making efforts for environmental conservation when its role in climate change is negligible.
“Many government schemes carry the message of environment conservation. Be it Swachh Bharat Mission, Namami Gange, or One Sun, One Grid; India's efforts are multi-faceted,” PM Modi said while addressing a Save Soil Movement program attended by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudeva and top Union ministers.
The prime minister said developed nations were responsible for the largest carbon emissions.
“Large modern countries of the world are not only exploiting more and more resources of the earth, but maximum carbon emissions are on their account,” he said.
Noting that Indian farmers used to lack awareness about soil health, PM Modi said a huge campaign was launched to give soil health cards to the farmers and overcome the problem. The government is also actively encouraging natural farming, he added.
“In this year's Budget, we have announced natural farming along the Ganga river corridor will be promoted. This will not only make our farms chemical free, but the Namami Gange campaign will also gain impetus,” the prime minister said.
