India’s foreign policy is not about sitting on the fence just because other countries don’t agree with it, foreign minister S Jaishankar said at the GLOBSEC 2022, adding that India is standing its ground. At the strategic conference, the external affairs minister spoke extensively about India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war which entered its 100th day today and about the axis it would prefer to be a part of, among other crucial issues.

“I don't think we are sitting on a fence just because I don’t agree with you. It means I am sitting on my ground,” the minister asserted when asked if India can afford to sit on the fence as an emerging world leader.

Would India join a global power axis? Which one would it join - the US-led axis or China as the other potential axis?
“This is a construct you're trying to impose on India. I don't think it's necessary for India to join any axis. India is entitled to make its own choices, which will be a balance of its values and interests,” he said.
