In numbers: How a renewed Covid surge is battering Europe

So far, nearly 13.8 lakh people in Europe have succumbed to the virus, and more than seven crore are infected.

Europe is in the middle of a new Covid-19 crisis, with several countries imposing restrictions and some others contemplating the same in the face of massive protests. Infections are higher than ever and Europe now accounts for three in every five new coronavirus cases across the globe.

On November 8, 2020, Europe reported the peak of the year with 2.87 lakh new cases, which went down to around 40,000 on June 19, 2021. However, on November 21, 2021, new cases jumped to 3.3 lakh, Johns Hopkins University data of the seven-day rolling average shows. This is almost 61 per cent of the world's new cases (5.39 lakh).
