IMD predicts pre-monsoon rains in parts of Maharashtra from May 30

The India Meteorological Department, Pune, has predicted that pre-monsoon rains will hit parts of Maharashtra from May 30 onwards. The winds bringing moisture over Maharashtra have resulted in favourable conditions for pre-monsoon rain activity.
The India Meteorological Department, Pune, has predicted pre-monsoon rains in parts of Maharashtra from May 30 and the state is bracing for heavy rainfall. The weather agency has predicted early advancement of the monsoon and that too, at least four to five days prior, as compared to its normal date.
In an exclusive interview with India Today TV, Dr Anupam Kashyapi, the Head of Weather Forecasting Department, IMD Pune, shared various details regarding the early onset of monsoon and pre-monsoon activity in Maharashtra.
Dr Kashyapi said, "As per the visible satellite pictures taken on May 28, a good cloud mask over the Arabian sea that is below Kerala or the Indian peninsula is touching Srilanka. And the same type of monsoon cloud formation is over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands."
With the conditions becoming favourable for the onset of the monsoon in Kerala in three to four days, Dr Kashyapi explained that conditions are also becoming favourable for further advancement of the monsoon. Convective cloud formation is also happening over the Arabian sea, adjacent to the west coast of Lakshadweep area and some parts of Srilanka, she added.
Analysing as to how the current monsoon will move over Maharashtra, she elaborated, "Although the normal date of monsoon entering Maharashtra from its southernmost areas such as Goa, Sindhadurg, Ratnagiri district is around June 5 or 6 and the date when the monsoon spreads throughout the state is June 15. But this year, the prediction of the advancement of the monsoon might be 4 to 5 days earlier than its normal date."
