Speaking to India Today, the family of the accused, in the Lakhimpur Kheri murder-rape case, denied all allegations and stated that their sons were innocent.
The dead bodies of two teenage girls were recovered, hanging from a tree, in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri on Wednesday. A preliminary probe hinted at foul play and that the death was a murder, whereas the autopsy report confirmed that both girls were raped and strangulated.
Speaking to India Today, the family members of the accused denied all allegations and stated that their sons were innocent.
Uttar Pradesh Police arrested six people in connection with the crime. The government will take action so that the souls of their coming generations will also shiver, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak said on Thursday. As per the police, none of the accused is a minor.
"All accused in the rape and murder case are adults," the police said.
The family members of the four accused claimed that all their sons 'together' had left the house to purchase rations. They mentioned that their sons had stepped out between 1 and 4 pm. The mother of the rape and murder accused Hafizur, Sohail, and Karimmudin said that their sons would have fled the scene of the crime and the area, had they committed any crime.
Had my sons committed any mistake, they would have run away but all of them were at home," the family said.
Sohail was arrested at 10:30 pm and Karimmudin and Hafizur at midnight.
