Mamata Banerjee said her party can get together with the Congress to defeat the BJP in the 2024 general elections.
Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee, with her eyes set on 2024, hinted at a coalition with the Congress ‘if the Congress wants’. All parties should walk together if they want to defeat the BJP, she said.
“We can all fight (the 2024 general elections) together if the Congress wants. Don't be aggressive for now. Be positive. This win (in four states) will be a big loss for the BJP,” she said, adding, “All political polities that want to fight the BJP should walk together. The Congress is losing their credibility. Can't depend on them.”
This comes a day after the Trinamool Congress leadership asked the Congress to come together in the fight against the BJP after the saffron party swept four of the five states. The grand old party, which has been reduced to an all-time low in the recently-concluded elections, accused the Trinamool Congress of being “agents of the BJP” in a sharp rebuttal.
“The TMC is the biggest agent of the BJP. Rather, TMC should merge with Congress if it is so serious about fighting against BJP,” Congress’ Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.
