The State government is yet to finalise the location for the second international airport in Bengaluru, Industries Minister M.B. Patil said in Belagavi on Tuesday.
“We have asked the Infrastructure Development Corporation (Karnataka) Ltd. (IDeCK) to conduct a survey to finalise the place. It will consider various factors including connectivity by roads, rail and metro, whether the surroundings have a hilly terrain or tall structures,” he said, responding a question by member T.N. Javarayi Gowda in the Legislative Council.
A list of potential locations will be prepared after a study. Factors like distance and time to reach the proposed airport for users, flat land, soil types, low population density areas and availability of water resources will also be taken into account. Other works like project reports and the proposal related to the project are being taken up.
Mr. Patil said that compensation for land acquired by KIADB is being deposited directly to the concerned account holders through RTGS. This is to avoid the menace of middlemen, he said. He was responding to a question by member Bharati Shetty.
He clarified that as per provisions of the KIAD Act, 1996, farmers cannot be made shareholders of factories set up on acquired land. However, the KIADB gives back developed land of 10,781 sq.ft for every acre of land acquired, to land owners, on the lines of urban development authorities, the Minister said.
