Ahead of his sentencing in a terror funding case, Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik said in court that he had been following Gandhian principles and non-violent politics in Kashmir after dropping his weapons.
Hours before a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Delhi was to pronounce his sentence in a terror funding case, Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik said he had been following Gandhian principles and non-violent politics.
"After dropping weapons, I have followed principles of Mahatma Gandhi. Since then, I have been following non-violent politics in Kashmir," he said in court on Wednesday.
The NIA has sought death penalty for Yasin Malik. The minimum sentence he can get in the case is life imprisonment and the maximum sentence is the death penalty. In the morning, the NIA court reserved its order till 3.30 pm.
In view of Yasin Malik's sentencing, there was heavy police deployment at Patiala House Court in Delhi on Wednesday.
Earlier this month, Yasin Malik had pleaded guilty of all charges, including those under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), in the terror funding case.
On May 19, special judge Praveen Singh had convicted him and directed National Investigation Agency (NIA) authorities to assess his financial situation to determine the amount of fine to be imposed.
