Mamata Banerjee requested the Chief Justice of the high court to not allow media trials, to solve pending cases, and to bring women to the judiciary.
“I am a lawyer and I can come to the High Court anytime to practice,” Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said at the handing-over ceremony of the new secretariat block building to the Calcutta High Court.
“I am also a member of the bar council. I have appeared for some human rights cases,” she further said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mamata Banerjee requested the Chief Justice to not allow media trials, to solve pending cases, and to bring women to the judiciary.
“I have one request - please solve pending cases and give more women judges. We have few women judges. Please don't allow media trials because sometimes they mislead and misguide,” she said.
“If one loses credibility, others lose as well. This is a pillar for democracy and justice cannot be partial. When people lose faith in everything, they turn to the judiciary,” the Trinamool Congress chief said.
