Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the Boulder Concept at the New York International Auto Show 2026, offering a preview of its first body-on-frame architecture that will underpin a midsize pickup truck expected by 2030.
Designed as an SUV-shaped concept, the same architecture will spawn a pickup as well. It marks a significant shift for the brand, which has traditionally focused on monocoque SUVs and crossovers.
At the core of the concept is a fully boxed, ladder-frame-style construction, long favoured for its strength, durability, and ability to handle serious off-road use, towing, and hauling. Hyundai says this new platform will form the backbone of its future body-on-frame vehicles.
The Boulder Concept has been developed by Hyundai Design North America, with a clear focus on appealing to off-road enthusiasts. Its upright two-box silhouette, high ground clearance, and aggressive stance underscore its rugged intent, while the brand’s ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy shapes its sculpted yet functional exterior.
Notable design elements include oversized 37-inch mud-terrain tyres, a roof rack with integrated steel webbing, coach-style doors, and a unique dual-hinged tailgate that opens from either side. A power drop-down rear window further enhances practicality, especially for carrying longer items.
Inside, the cabin prioritises durability and usability, with robust materials, physical controls for key functions, and configurable elements such as fold-out tray tables aimed at enhancing versatility during outdoor adventures.
