In a major haul, the Madhapur police busted an inter-state drug racket and arrested three drug peddlers and seized 256 kg of marijuana. All the drug smugglers were arrested near Hi-Tec railway station on Monday when police officers intercepted a truck and seized 256 kg ganja from the vehicle.
The inter-state gang was reportedly taking the contraband from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh via Hyderabad, reported the Times of India (TOI) and the ganja was seized in a secret compartment in driver's cabin. Police seized drugs, a truck and other materials altogether worth Rs 55 lakh from their possession.
Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the truck on January 23 and arrested three drug peddlers identified as Mohd Iqbal (35) from Hathras, Shahrukh (30) from Firozabad, and Mohd Salim (29) from Etawah.
Police said Iqbal peddled drugs from Odisha to Uttar Pradesh via Hyderabad and his two brothers- Shahrukh and Salim worked as truck drivers, the Telangana Today reported. The accused reportedly modified the truck with a secret cabin over the top of the driver's cabin and concealed drugs and transported them, the report said.
Madhapur DCP K Shilpavalli was quoted by the TOI as saying that the accused confessed that they received the contraband from Babbulal. Babbulal is a marijuana cultivator-cum-seller.
As per the reports, the accused Iqbal, who was reportedly in touch with Babbulal, received information about the availability of ganja following which he called Shahrukh and Salim.
