
Hyderabad court acquits AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in 2004 hate speech case

A special court in Hyderabad on Tuesday acquitted AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in a 2004 hate speech case.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi has been acquitted by a special court in Hyderabad in connection with a "hate" speech case registered against him in 2004.On Tuesday, the Special Sessions Court for trial of MPs/MLAs acquitted Akbaruddin Owaisi after it found him not guilty of the offences/allegations against him.
Chandrayangutta MLA Akbaruddin had allegedly made a “communally inciting speech” at a public meeting in 2004 during election campaigning. Following this, a case was registered under relevant IPC sections against him on a complaint from a police official, saying he tried to instigate the public.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
