
Hyderabad: Congress protests at Salar Jung Museum over Savarkar’s portrait

Hyderabad Youth Congress staged a protest in front of Salar Jung museum over the display of VD Savarkar’s portrait.
Hyderabad Youth Congress held a protest on Saturday, May 28, in front of Salar Jung museum over the display of RSS founder Vinayak Damodar Savarkar's portrait. The Congress activists were miffed about former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s portrait missing from the exhibition.
The ongoing Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav exhibition at the Salar Jung museum has VD Savarkar's portrait on display and highlights his role in India’s independence.
Hyderabad Congress activists termed it an “insult” and demanded an apology from the government. They also sought display of Pandit Nehru’s portrait in the museum.
Hyderabad Youth Congress president Motha Rohit and other party activists tried to barge into the Salar Jung museum but were stopped.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
