
Hundreds protest at Jama Masjid, seek Waseem Rizvi’s arrest for filing petition in SC over Quran verses

Hundreds of Muslims staged a protest outside Delhi's Jama Masjid on Friday against Waseem Rizvi, who has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking removal of 26 verses from the Quran.
Hundreds gathered on the stairs of the Jama Masjid in Delhi after Friday prayers to protest against Waseem Rizvi, former chairman of the Shia Waqf Board in Uttar Pradesh. A Muslim scholar and filmmaker, Waseem Rizvi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking removal of as many as 26 ‘controversial’ aayats (verses) from the Quran. On Friday, protesters and clerics from both Shia and Sunni communities joined the protest at Jama Masjid. Demanding his arrest, the protesters shouted slogans calling Waseem Rizvi an “enemy of Islam”.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
