SINGAPORE – Many pupils in Singapore find their PSLE mother tongue subject intimidating because they lack practice at home.
While bilingualism is official policy, English is the main language for many Primary 6 pupils. Educators observe that this lack of immersion, as well as a reluctance to practise their mother tongue, leads to common academic challenges across the second-language subjects.
