India Today filed a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in the Houses of Parliament to know how many times in the last 10 years the government agencies have sought permission from the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha and the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to prosecute MPs.
The arrest of Rajya Sabha member and Union minister Narayan Rane on Tuesday evoked a curiosity about the procedure for arresting a cabinet minister of the central government. A Cabinet Minister is treated just like any other MP in this regard. He or she can be arrested in a criminal case. The arresting authority would have to inform the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha or the Speaker of the Lok Sabha regarding the reason for the arrest.More Related News
