How Carney buried the ghost of Trudeau and reset India ties
India Today
Canadian PM Mark Carney, who has styled himself as a champion of middle-power countries, is on a two-day visit to India as he looks to rebuild ties with Delhi. Since he assumed office last year, Carney has taken several steps to bury the ghost of Canada's tumultuous ties with India under Justin Trudeau. Here is how.
There is a notable omission in Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's India itinerary. Carney will not be visiting Punjab, in a departure from the tradition followed by his predecessors, which was largely seen as a nod to the large Indian diaspora from the state. By keeping domestic politics aside, Carney has signalled that his India visit was more about cementing economic ties and rebuilding the bilateral relationship that ruptured under Justin Trudeau over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Since taking office last year, Carney has taken several steps to bury the ghost of Canada's tumultuous relationship with India under Trudeau. The fact that this will be Carney's third meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 10 months -- an extraordinary moment for the countries that were expelling diplomats and exchanging barbs just over a year ago -- underscores how the tide has turned.

The latest sweetener came on Wednesday, hours before Carney was to depart for Mumbai. The Canadian government clarified that India was no longer linked to violent crimes on its soil -- a shift that has rankled Sikh activists in Ottawa.
"If we believed that India was actively interfering in the Canadian democratic process, we probably would not be taking this trip," a senior government official told the media, CBC reported.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.
