Metropolitan Archbishop of Bengaluru Dr Peter Machado has strongly opposed the Karnataka government’s proposed Anti-Conversion Bill, and wondered how big a threat the ruling party considers the state's 1.87 per cent Christian population.
The Catholic archbishop said he disagreed with State Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department’s order for conducting a survey of both official and non-official Christian missionaries, institutions and establishments functioning in Karnataka.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
