
'House full': As bodies pile up, out of space crematorium closes facility in Bengaluru

A crematorium in Karnataka's Chamrajpet put up a "house full" signboard outside the facility due to the lack of space as the Covid-19 deaths rise.
The surge in Covid-19 infections has overwhelmed hospitals, morgues and crematoriums, leaving families scrambling to look for space to cremate their loved ones. As bodies have piled up due to the increased number of fatalities due to Covid-19, several crematoriums are facing space shortages. In one such case, officials of a crematorium in Karnataka's Chamrajpet put up a "house full" signboard outside the facility due to a lack of space to cremate the dead bodies. The crematorium, which takes around 20 bodies for cremation, put up a board saying no more bodies will be taken up for cremation.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
